I haven’t felt like posting lately.
Some of you have wondered why.
Nothing’s wrong. No, my life isn’t perfect—life never is. I feel blue some days, and I’m often extremely tired because I stay up way too late, get up way too early and sleep fitfully in between.
But I also feel pretty good fairly often, even invigorated. I catch myself singing. One afternoon, a few of my coworkers laughed at me because I was humming and snapping my fingers in the hallway, lost in my imagination, oblivious to what was going on around me. Unusually peppy behavior for me, I admit, and perhaps I could write about it. It’s just that right now I feel more private. And I can’t adequately express some of my thoughts, feelings and experiences on a blog with words.
Pictures, maybe.
Which is why I was excited to hear about a new meme that’s making its way around the Internet. I don’t know what “meme” means—I truly don’t, and I’m too lazy to look it up. But the way I understand it, for the next 30 days in a row I’m supposed to post a photograph that expresses the theme for the day. Although I’m not much good at photography, I enjoy it a lot, always have, and have resorted to it in the past in lieu of writing, as some of you may recall. The meme is called Thirty Days of Photographs.
Doesn’t get much simpler than that, does it?
I’m going to start my Thirty Days of Photographs on Monday, tomorrow, with a photo of a member of my family. I considered using a shot of my Uncle Earl, but he said he was really drunk when the cops threw him in jail and that he didn’t have time to shave or comb his hair when they took his picture. So out of respect for his vanity and the new friends he’s making at the Graybar Hotel, I’ll keep that photo to myself.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this artistic exercise. I will, and maybe it’ll get me in the habit of posting again. Here’s the list of themes I’ll be working with for the next 30 days:
Day 1: A member of my family
Day 2: A favorite object
Day 3: My addiction
Day 4: My hobby
Day 5: Evil
Day 6: Green
Day 7: Happiness
Day 8: Music
Day 9: Death
Day 10: Desire
Day 11: Monday
Day 12: Light
Day 13: Pain
Day 14: A winter picture
Day 15: Love
Day 16: Old
Day 17: A moment
Day 18: Tears
Day 19: Black
Day 20: Different
Day 21: When I was young
Day 22: Self portrait
Day 23: A summer picture
Day 24: Wet
Day 25: Dinner
Day 26: Chocolate
Day 27: Two, a pair
Day 28: Weather
Day 29: Night
Day 30: God
I hope to see you around, and thanks to those friends who’ve been thinking of me in my absence.
Hmmmmm…I believe “meme” as the Finnish word for “I’ll make everyone do what I do and end up controlling the world BWAHAHAHAHA!!”
I look forward to seeing what pictures you post, especially for Day 5. Should I just send you a picture of me now?
Yes, please send me a picture, Nicky. Didn’t you make me some kinda amazing offer if I started posting again? I’m just sure you did…
I believe you were chatting with the Mike portion of Nicky-and Mike when that agreement was made. He’s on vacation at the moment, but I’ll be sure to tell him to honour his end of the deal as soon as he gets back.
PS. My captcha code is NUT4.
Figures.
Nicky kultaseni, I have a meme for you…
You two would make a cute couple.
Well, this sounds fun. Interesting at the least.
It seems we’re all on a bit of break. Except Linda. She’s on top of things as always.
Many of the bloggers I follow have been very spotty lately. I haven’t even been reading, except sporadically. But I’m going to make a valiant effort this time.
Yay! He lives!
Actually, I ventured on FB last night for a few moments and saw you there. You’ve dumped us for FB, haven’t you?
And you can’t quite give us a clean break, can you.
Tricksy, you are.
*gollum, gollum*
Don’t know where that came from. Hey, I never said I was witty, just quirky. *grin*
Any reference to LOTR and the Hobbitt is brilliant as far as I’m concerned.
I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
You are always full of surprises!
Or full of shit, depending on who you talk to.
I’d be happy to forward you a photograph so you can take Day 16 off.
Awww, you’ve still got some good miles on you, Murr. But thanks for the offer.
I’m just glad you’re back to blogging…no matter if you’re using a pathetic theme to get yourself kickstarted
. At least you’re back…
D’oh. I meant “meme.” Well, I’m pathetic too.
We’re all pathetic, Unfinished. Some of us just don’t know it yet. And thank you. I’ve missed everybody, and made at least one person terribly angry. So it’ll be good to be doing something again.
I am completely finished and perfect. I’m 27 after all. I have everything figured out.
We really have missed you.
And if you need me to have words with someone, I’m up to the job. Because anyone who is super angry at you is obviously very confused. Unless you were a dork. You should say you’re sorry.
I was a poor friend, and I apologized. But sometimes apologies aren’t enough. Only actions count. So I’m going to try harder, even though it’s hard for me right now.
But thank you for your offer. Something tells me you’d be very good at telling people off. In fact, can I have a raincheck?
Sure thing. I prefer the term “setting people straight.” But yeah, I was schooled early in the art. My grandmother was especially adept at the practice. Just give me 12 hours notice, I need to be sober.
A picture a day. If you were a sort of adequate writer like most of us you would be able to write posts willy nilly. But no, you have to be your brainiac self and well, really write. So I can understand your problem with writing right now. Pictures will have to do.
I’ve been writing, but not posts. Personal things, a couple of short stories that I like. My time’s been limited, and I only have so much energy. I really need to develop a cocaine habit. I hear it can help you get a lot done in a short amout of time.
I won’t be negative about this. I look forward to what will develop. I think this will undoubtedly help you focus. I shutter to think what the interwebs would be without you.
Why do I feel overexposed?
You already have a wonderful way of including a few pictures to match your words; so I look forward to this new twist of putting a few words to match your pictures.
Thank you, Ronda.
This is a very interesting concept, Michael, it must have been some kind of genius who turned you onto this.
Why, what makes you say that, Ziva?
I can look at pictures. I can’t read or write posts but I think I can look at a picture or two.
Exactly, Jen.
YES!! I’m psyched about this project. Photos of this nature can be extremely intimate and express more than words. I love this meme so much I might even “steal” it from you.
Please do steal it, Meleah. That’s part of the fun.
